JMT in 7 Days
Переглядів 4,6 тис.7 місяців тому
211 miles, 50,000 ft elevation gain, 7 days. In 2021, my brother and I set out to do the Sierra Nevada's John Muir Trail as fast as we possibly could, which we figured would be about a week. By no means the record, but for us it was enough to thoroughly trash our bodies and test our limits.

For an unusual year that enough has already been said about, I thought it fitting to do something different for my annual video. This is part end of year recap, and part visual component to the album my brother and I made over the course of the year: Dawn.
MOUNTAINHOME: Dawn - Album Teaser

A year ago my brother and I started making music together. Neither of us have any kind of training or experience, so we were learning everything completely from scratch. Shaped by a period of intense political and climate upheaval, we ended up with something of a loose concept album that charts the course of the last year in many ways, and hopefully has as much artistic validity as you could as...

In 2011 at the age of 12 years old, I started shooting and uploading a Lego stop motion film in pieces. The goal was to make the film in 10 parts and release it as a whole once it was finished. That film ended up taking 8 years to complete, and now at the age of 20 it's finally done. This is PAIRD, the way it was meant to be seen. Music by Mozzaratti: ua-cam.com/users/mozzaratti

A perspective..... In 1972 I was 18 years old. I decided it would be cool to hike the John Muir Trail in 7 days, as I had never heard of anybody doing that. Also did this by myself as I did not know anybody else crazy enough to try . Put a week worth of food in my Kelty pack, and hitchhiked from Los Angeles to the Mt Whitney trailhead. The pack weighed about 45 pounds, which was mostly food. No real flashlights in those days, so night hiking was unheard of. So hiked from 6 in the morning to 6 at night each day. Figured 3 mph downhill , and 2 mph hill. Did no training whatsoever. The trail officially starts at the top of Mt Whitney. So went to the top, spent the night in the cabin there, and left at 6 am the next morning. Had no long pants, was lightly snowing at the top when I left. I planned camping spots every 30 miles. I was effortlessly making the hike for 5 days. As you well know, the southern section is the hard part with the endless passes and valleys .The night of the 5th day, it started raining hard. I had no tent to save weight , and would sleep at night on a plastic ground cloth. A fellow camper felt sorry for me, and said I could stay in his tent . His tent leaked badly, and by morning my sleeping bag was soaked, and I was going into hyperthermia. I could barely walk I was so cold....... So sadly had to leave the trail at Devil's Postpile. Which really pissed me off, as the last two days of the trail down to Yosemite are a piece of cake. It is astonishing to see the level of preparation that you guys have done, a far cry from me....

Guys this was EXCELLENT!!! Someone posted this to the PCT subreddit and as I’m starting the Sierra tomorrow evening, I checked it out to hype myself up. As a current hiker and former editor, I just love everything about this film. Impeccable work all around, both on the film side and the crushing miles side. Side note; I hiked the JMT once before in 2021 and also had the misfortune of being just a few miles away from someone who got hit my lightning and passed. I think about this a lot. Just how it could have been me instead. I know you didn’t stay in that topic for very long but I can’t imagine that was easy to grapple with. It certainly wasn’t for me. Anyway, hats off to you both. 10/10.

No need to add "mountains" to the Sierra Nevada which is Spanish for "snowy range". The California Miwok named it "Kayopha the sky and the peaks that touch it" .John Muir called it THE RANGE OF LIGHT which it is !!! With an open Heart, you may discover that!!!

I actually worked with Lego to make the adventures of clutch powers 2 but unfortunately the project was cut. However the plus side is my script is now, therefore canon. And clutch powers 2 lore is a thing but unfortunately due to legal reasons I can't make anything out of it. We got concepts and everything from animators at Lego. We even got some of the original cast on call but unfortunately I guess it didn't seem like it would make a lot of money which, in my opinion, is bs because Clutch was in Ninjago (kind of. That wasn't our king, that's as a fraud). I even laid groundwork for some plot points for the third movie should the sequel be successful. I wish every day that Lego would've given it a chance. But on the plus side I got to work with the Lego company officially.

This is the best brickfilm I’ve ever seen! I genuenly mean that! The story on its own elevates it to such a great level, not to mention the set designs and filming, music and camera movement. And that ending gave me goosebumps, such a great callback to the beginning. Truly beautiful.

I was part of a team of undergraduate engineers at NM State U, an hour south of where the final launch shown here is, that attempted the same thing in 2008: to be the first student-led team to break the Karmen line. Unfortunately it was not a success. Congrats to these kids for achieving history!
